At Sleven, we aim to help each of our members to develop their strength and fitness to meet their own personal objectives and to do so within a supportive and friendly environment. We are committed to providing our members with the best possible coaching and to help achieve this, we have developed Coaches Ed., a rigorous 4 month education programme.

We are passionate about encouraging and enabling athletes to progress to become coaches if that is their ambition and our Coaches Ed. programme is an ideal place to begin to develop the tools to become a leader in our community.

Coaches Ed. covers a wide variety of topics including:
  • A 6 week intensive practical course teaching you the main exercises we do at Sleven and how to effectively cue, scale and progress them.
  • An optional structured shadowing programme with an assigned mentor to help you take your first steps on the route to coaching.
  • Theoretical aspects around health and fitness and how the body adapts to exercise.
  • How to programme workouts individually and for a class based environment.
  • A crash-course in nutrition.

After learning about the basics of health and fitness, you’ll have an opportunity to apply your new found knowledge to the real world by programming workouts. We will teach you how to create workouts on their own and then build out a week in the context of a class-based programme such as 24Sleven or Sleven X.

This will be a chance for you to get your creative juices flowing and see if you can put together coherent, effective and fun programmes.

Coaches Ed. ends with a one week crash course on nutrition. This will help establish the building blocks of some sound, tried and tested principles:
  • Overview on macros
  • Understanding base metabolic rate
  • Nutrition principles that support functional fitness training

No, a good coach does not necessarily need to have a perfect handstand, a 100kg snatch or an ass to grass squat. Instead, you need to display credibility through understanding where virtuosity in the movement lies and a demonstrable effort to address injury, mobility, skill or strength issues.

Not necessarily and this is dependent on a multitude of factors. However, Coaches Ed. is the best way to become a member of Sleven's coaching team. Jan, Renae and Sam came through last year's programme giving us the chance to improve and refine the course material and practical sessions.

No! We highly encourage you to become one so that you can dive headfirst into our amazing community and understand how we run things at Sleven.

Yes! Remember, the shadowing unit is optional. We will expect a four month commitment but if you are interested in health and fitness and would simply like to deepen your knowledge of functional fitness training, this will be your jam!
